Beabadoobee is a 24-year-old indie musician who has been releasing music since 2017.
Bea’s most recent album ‘This is How Tomorrow Moves’ was released in August and the UK leg of her tour began on the 11th of November in Glasgow.
On the 19th of November along with many other fans, I got to see Beabadoobee live at the Brighton Dome.
The queue for the concert was stretching round the Dome as far as the Theatre Royal.
The support act for the show was Momma, an indie rock band from New York. There was a large crowd gathered to watch their performance with many people dancing and singing along.
In the 20 minutes between Momma finishing their set and Beabadoobee starting, anticipation grew amongst the crowd.
Bea’s band came on individually playing their instrument and slowly building up the song. As Beabadoobee entered the stage, singing her first song California, the crowd erupted into screams and applause.
The setlist for the evening spanned across Bea’s whole discography, from Coffee, the first song she ever put out, to the ones from her new album.
During ‘Take a Bite’, from ‘This is How Tomorrow Moves’ many of the crowd took part in a fan project in which paper apple cutouts were held above phone lights. The apples had been handed out to us while we were waiting in the queue before the show.
My favourite song, ‘She Plays Bass’ was performed shortly before the encore, everyone around me was jumping and singing along with Bea.
I had been excited for months prior to the show, and from the crowd’s reactions, they had been too. The atmosphere was electric.
Based on who was at the concert, Beabadoobee’s fanbase seems to be made up of mostly teenage girls and young women.
I think her music appeals to this demographic because of her vulnerable yet empowering lyrics and comforting tunes.
She had excellent stage presence, from the start of the show until the end, and she was obviously very comfortable interacting with the fans as she spoke to us many times throughout the show.
This is Bea’s biggest tour to date and it may have been the last time to see her at more intimate venues as she continues her rise in popularity.
