Earlier this month I headed down to the Duke of York’s Picture house to see flow as a part of Cinecity’s 2024 film festival.
The event took place over a nine-day period where directors could show their productions, and the audience was given the ability to give feedback.
Among the submissions, Flow was featured as a special pre-screening before the official release of early March 2025.
Flow is an animated feature film by Latvian filmmaker Gints Zilbalodis, celebrated for his innovative and minimalist approach to storytelling.
Released as his follow-up to the critically acclaimed Away (2019), Flow showcases Zilbalodis's creativity in the industry.
This independent film reinforces his signature style: a seamless blend of animation, music, and thematic depth, all created predominantly by the filmmaker himself.
I thoroughly enjoy Flow for its artistry and ability to captivate the audience with no dialogue.
It grips the viewers' attention through the enticing visuals, which combine striking design with vibrant, surreal landscapes that feel both otherworldly and deeply immersive.
Each frame is carefully crafted to draw the audience into a mesmerizing world, where the fluid movement of characters and the bold use of colour and light create an atmosphere that is both captivating and hypnotic.
This is a film you won’t want to miss in the coming year—be sure to mark your calendar and experience its journey.
