If you haven’t already heard of the relatively well-known book Yellowface by Rebecca F. Kuang, then good thing you’re reading this, because let me tell you, when I say I couldn’t put this book down, I do mean it.
Categorised as suspenseful and thrilling, as well as being described as a satire of racial diversity within the publishing industry, this book might just be right up your alley!
I sped through the book, relishing the dark humour and witty remarks as we follow the main character, June Hayward, who witnesses her friend (Athena Liu) die.
Amidst the chaos and clouded by jealousy, June steals Athena’s manuscript, publishing it as her own.
The story then proceeds, following the ups and downs of June’s tumultuous career.
Overall, this book is well written, with an entertaining plot and sharp sense of humour.
It felt enticing, as if tempting you to read it all in one sitting.
If you don’t want to take my word for it, then take Goodreads’; Yellowface won the 2023 Goodreads Choice Award for Best Fiction.
And for the cherry on top, it is rumoured that Yellowface has been optioned by Lionsgate TV, who are planning to develop it as a series.
Pretty cool if you ask me.
So go ahead, give it a read. You will not regret it.
