It has only been 10 years since England has had a professional women's cricket team, and we have come so far since then.

Popularity for female cricket and recognition for the sport has massively increased over the past few years and hopefully will for years to come.

This is partly due to developments of new professional female cricket leagues comparable to the men’s.

This is beginning to push for total equality in the cricketing world.

Professional female cricketers are able to inspire younger generations of girls playing cricket and represent what is now possible for them.

Along with this, there has also been a huge rise in new female teams in local clubs round the country.

According to the England and Wales Cricket Board, there has been a 22% increase in the number of women’s and girls’ teams.

In Sussex, the Sussex Cricket Foundation is encouraging more girls to get involved with the sport and enjoy cricket.

School competitions and leagues have been created through various projects aiming to promote girls' cricket.

These have produced opportunities for everyone and are making cricket more inclusive.

The Foundation has supported clubs to set up female sections.

Inspired by this?

There are so many local cricket clubs in Sussex - welcoming all levels of experience - who would love to have more female cricketers.

To name a few local Sussex clubs: St. Peters CC, Rottingdean CC, Brighton and Hove CC and Preston Nomads CC.

All of which have excellent playing fields, facilities and accessible training for their teams.

So don’t hesitate to get involved!
