Unbeknownst to many of its residents, Brighton and Hove is home to a flourishing mixed gender Tag Rugby League.
Spanning over 24 individual teams, tournaments are held regularly in a bid to determine those with the best tricks, tips, tactics, and players.
The Wednesday night league on Hove Green came to a close in August, with great success for individuals and teams alike.
One such team is Tag Reflex, who are on a massive winning streak.
Speaking to a member of the team, they credited their success to a team dynamic unparalleled by their opponents.
"Whereas many teams have great individual players, I feel we outmatch them in the way we work as a team."
Currently, Brighton’s team holds the second-longest winning streak in the country—begging the question: can anyone beat them?
Tag Rugby is often overlooked as a sport in comparison to its more physical older sibling, yet its merits are equal.
The Try Tag Rugby organization boasts an impressive player base, with up to 7,200 athletes playing on a weekly basis—equating to as many as 450 matches played each week.
And it’s not just a social event; with games lasting 40 minutes, players can burn upwards of 600 calories.
As we break for the off-season, I’m sure Tag Reflex will do everything they can to maintain their success and shine a spotlight on Brighton's impressive Tag Rugby scene.
