Ser-od Ba-otochir stormed to an emphatic victory at the inaugural Brighton Marathon.

The Mongolian national record holder came home more than five minutes ahead of his nearest rival Michael Coleman in rising temperatures in the city.

Ba-otochir, a two time Olympian who lives in Gateshead, clocked 2hr.19min.05sec to eclipse the previous fastest time set for a marathon in Sussex.

Coleman was the top British runner in 2hr.24min.36sec ahead of Brighton and Hove City's Chris Thompson, the top Sussex athlete in third place.

Thompson, who was running in his first ever marathon on his 26th birthday, clocked 2hr.29min.50sec with James Savage in fourth.

Jo Bryce, of Burgess Hill Runners, won the women's race ahead of Brighton and Hove's Cathy Ulliott.

Bryce clocked 3hr.03min.16sec with Ulliott just 22 seconds behind in 3hr.03min.38sec. Polly Moseley came third.
