Bognor moved off the bottom of the Ryman premier with a superb 3-1 victory at Kingstonian.

Two goals from Jason Prior and a twice-taken Michael Birmingham penalty gave Bognor a well-derseved victory against the promotion chasers.

The Rocks took a seventh minute lead when Prior headed home a Richard Hudson cross but Kingstonian levelled through the prolific Bobby Traynor ten minutes later.

Birmingham restored the Rocks’ lead on 33 minutes after he converted from the penalty spot following a foul on Hudson.

He had his first attempt saved but the referee ordered the spot-kick to be retaken as the keeper moved off his line.

Prior added the third with 16 minutes left to delight manager Darin Killpartrick.

He said: “It was a fantastic performance from the whole team today but I must mention Michael Birmingham who was outstanding.

“The energy he showed at 34 years old despite playing two games in three days was brilliant. He drove us to the win against a very good side.”

Sam Adams scored his first league goal since September but could not prevent Hastings United slipping to a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Maidstone at the Pilot Field.

Hastings boss Tony Dolby brought Rhys Whyborne back into the back four with Nathan Russell dropping to the bench while Lee Carey replaced the influential Michael Phillips in midfield.

United got off to a bad start when Stones’ Danny Hockton powered a header past Greg Nessling from inside the area.

Nessling denied Hockton a second soon after but Hastings started to apply pressure with Russell Eldridge hitting the woodwork with one free-kick before forcing Jamie Turner into an excellent save with another.

The hosts levelled on 26 minutes when Adams fired home following a clever Carey pass.

Maidstone regained the lead on 35 minutes when Hockton grabbed his second after Jermaine Darlington set him up.

Hastings had plenty of second-half pressure but were unable to break down a solid Stones defence.
