Whitehawk ensured Sussex will have one team in the last 32 of the FA Vase after winning 2-0 away to Larkhall Athletic.

The Hawks booked a fourth round trip to Bristol Manor Farm, who beat Peacehaven 3-0 seven days earlier, with a convincing victory.

They were on top until the closing stages when the home side missed a penalty.

Joint boss George Parris said: “I am delighted to get through. We played quite well and deserved the victory but the penalty could have made it a bit uneasy at the end.”

Josh Jones opened the scoring on 22 minutes with a left-foot strike from the edge of the box and Wes Tate turned to double the advantage a minute into the second half.

Larkhall won a penalty when Hawks goalkeeper Lloyd Anderson was adjudged to have upended a striker but the spot-kick was smashed against the crossbar.

Chichester had a great day as they dumped Eastbourne United out of the John O’Hara League Cup and remained top of the County League table.

Adie Girdler was happy to see the Hawks progress in the Vase as results elsewhere went his way while they concentrated on the cup.

Joe Briggs, James Ford and Ben Vassallo, on his return from an eight-week lay-off, were Chi’s scorers against United and Girdler said: “I’d like to see Whitehawk win the Vase but it is also another game which they will have to prepare for.”

Third-placed Wick crashed 2-0 to Redhill in the league as Calvin Headley and Daniel Morris scored.

St Francis Rangers boss Roy Staughton praised his side’s hard work after they grabbed a 2-0 win at high-flying Peacehaven through goals by Jamie Westlake and Geoff Pitcher.

Rangers keeper Simon Lehkyj also saved a penalty and Staughton said: “Peacehaven are a good side and we had to work really hard to get the result.”

There was late drama at Mill Road where Arundel and Shoreham fought out a 2-2 draw with the visitors’ Nick Fogden seeing red in the dying seconds as he conceded a penalty.

However, Shoreham keeper Michael Hunter saved Scott Tipper’s spot-kick before Howard Neighbour fired over the bar with virtually the last kick as the Mullets missed two-gilted edged chances to snatch the win.

Russ Hardwell put Arundel ahead but two goals from Ryan Bradley, including a penalty, edged the Musselmen in front before Tipper levelled on 88 minutes.

Mullets boss Richard Towers said: “We’re gutted not to have taken all three points. We missed the penalty but Neighbour then beat two players and shot over the bar when he could have squared it.”

Shoreham co-boss Darren Donnolly said: “We had chances to put the game beyond them at 2-1 up but if I had been offered four points from two games with Arundel before the season I would have taken them.”
