Sean Ray is definitely out of seventh-placed Hastings United’s trip to Harrow Borough tomorrow as he has swine flu.

The centre-half missed Hastings’ 3-1 derby win over Horsham on Monday with an injury and boss Tony Dolby has now been told Ray has the illness.

There are also question marks over the fitness of full-back Josh Jirbandey and centre-half Rhys Whyborne, who were both forced off in the win over the Hornets. Centre half Nathan Russell has signed dual registration forms with County League Rye.

Evening training sessions will be a thing of the past for Horsham players this season. The squad trained ahead of tomorrow’s home game with big-spending Carshalton at 5pm yesterday and by winter their midweek sessions will begin at 3pm.

Boss John Maggs said: “It is always beneficial to train outdoors on a big pitch rather than on a smaller area on an artificial surface. The boys like the idea because it gives them a night off.”

Gary Charman (knee) has joined Jack Page and James Nicholls on Hornets’ injury list but defender Delando Smith, who made his debut in Monday’s defeat at Hastings, is set to make his home debut against a Carshalton side who sacked manager Haydn Bird yesterday.

Bognor boss Darin Killpartrick is hoping to bring in a new face or two in time for the visit of AFC Hornchurch.

The Rocks are two points adrift at the bottom having picked up just one point from six games. But if Killpartrick does bring in players it will mean departures from the squad.

He said: “No one wants to be stranded at the bottom so as manager I have to do something about that. But if we manage to bring players in others will have to leave. We’ve got to balance the books.”
