Terry Dodd bagged the only goal as East Preston claimed a notable FA Cup scalp.

Trevor Waller’s side won 1-0 away to Southern League division one south and west side Gosport Borough.

It means they will be the only County League division two side in the first qualifying round on September 12 when they will be away to Guildford City.

Boss Waller said: “I think we will be the lowest ranked team left in the competition. Every round we are billed as the giantkillers and we are looking forward to that again.

“I am really proud of the boys. We had a plan of what we wanted to do, to let them have the ball, drop off and hit them on the break and it worked.”

Asa Nicholson put Dodd through for the only goal four minutes into the second half.

Crawley Down, who were promoted from division two last season, booked a home tie with Ryman premier side Ashford Town (Middlesex) after an impressive 2-1 win at Shoreham.

Left-back Guy Harding, with a terrific free-kick, and Aaron Watson, with a tap-in after Sam Cane’s shot was saved, fired the Anvils into a two-goal lead but Cane was then sent off for violent conduct and they were holding on at the end after Sam Blundell halved the deficit.

Boss Darren Guirey said: “It is the furthest Crawley Down have gone in the FA Cup and the money is good for the club. We thoroughly deserved it because we were by far the better side.”

East Grinstead fought back from 2-0 down to win 4-2 at home to Cove to secure a first qualifying round trip to fellow Sussex side Horsham YMCA.

Jack Johnson pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time, then second half goals followed from Luke Piscina, Drew Crush and Ben Burns.

Boss Steve Johnson said: “We said before the game they would be young, bright and lively and we must be aware of that.

“I slaughtered them at half-time because they knew what to expect.”

Horsham YMCA went through 5-3 at home to Wick yesterday with goals from Paul Elliott (two), Tom Manton, Steve Metcalf and Tom Lawley Eastbourne Town crashed to a 4-0 defeat at Hythe Town and there were no complaints from assistant manager Jon Purdey.

Kieron Byrne put the home side ahead at the break and a hat-trick from Pat Kingwell in the space of 25 second-half minutes means Hythe have now knocked out two Sussex sides in this season’s FA Cup.

Purdey said: “They were a physical side who outwitted and out-muscled us. We didn’t create a chance until the 80th minute. It was a poor performance.”

Ben Johnson scored two and made the other two as Worthing cruised to a 4-0 win at home to Raynes Park Vale.

Johnson’s cross allowed Ben Williamson to head Rebels into a 24th-minute lead before he set up the second for Jamie Brotherton on the hour. Johnson then scored twice in the last six minutes.

Boss Simon Colbran said: “Ben played well and deserved his two goals and it was a comfortable win for us.”

Danny Curd’s double was not enough as Chipstead avenged last week’s league defeat with a 3-2 win over Burgess Hill at Leylands Park.

Selsey went through 1-0 at home to Epsom and Ewell despite having their goalkeeper sent off. Gerald Joseph got the only goal ten minutes into the second half.

Eastbourne United secured an impressive 1-1 draw away to Ryman League division one south side Chatham Town, which means a replay at The Oval tomorrow.

They fell behind after just two minutes and lost goalkeeper Nick Maynard to injury after 20.

Reserve goalkeeper Adam Sargent was in excellent form and United grabbed an equaliser when Danny Andrews sent Steve Dallaway through for his fourth goal of the season on 65 minutes.

The outstanding Ben Billings almost bagged a winner late on.

Lingfield and Southwick shared a 0-0 draw yesterday.
