Claude Seanla scored the only goal of the game as Horsham registered their first Ryman premier points of the season with a 1-0 win at home to Sutton.
Seanla struck in the 38th minute to earn victory but it was a disappointing night for Sussex’s two other premier division sides who lost 1-0.
Hastings conceded two minutes from time as they lost at home to Aveley. Sherwin Stanley got the only goal with a header from a right-wing cross.
Bognor could have no complaints with a 1-0 defeat at Carshalton, who created the better chances throughout.
Former Brentford striker Charlie Ide scored the only goal in the 25th minute.
In division one south, Horsham YMCA came from behind to win 2-1 away to Met Police.
Having fallen behind in the tenth minute, YM drew level two minutes before the interval when Shaheen Sadough turned well to score.
Nigel Brake then hit a winner 15 minutes from time with a free-kick which the home goalkeeper spilled into the net.
Burgess Hill suffered a cruel 3-2 defeat at Chatham Town, going down to a 93rd minute winner.
They trailed to goals from Brendan Cass and Justin Ascheri but Matt Hurley made it 2-1 and then Danny Curd equalised 18 minutes from time only for Ascheri to steal the points in stoppage time.
Worthing suffered a second successive defeat at they went down 1-0 at home to Walton Casuals. Martin Grant netted on 76 minutes.
