Twelve months ago Borough looked a little wet behind the ears, both on and off the pitch, as they went into their debut season in non-league’s top flight.
Not so any more as Tuesday night’s victory over AFC Wimbledon proved.
Everything about the evening highlighted what a professionally run club Borough have become in such a short space of time.
A record crowd of 3,108 crammed inside Priory Lane with the minimum of fuss, the improved playing surface looked immaculate and the new floodlights were so much better than the previous one which caused visiting teams to complain. On the pitch, there was a sense that Borough truly belong at this level now. It was not the greatest performance by any means but they ground out a result in the same way other teams had done to them last season.
No one got over excited about the victory either, as they might have done a year ago, with three points now seen as the requirement in all home matches.
Not every game will be able to match up to Tuesday and there are likely to be plenty of ups and downs over the next eight months but Borough fans no longer feel like the new boys in Blue Square premier. SH
