Worthing suffered heartbreak for the second successive year in the Ryman division one south play-off semi-final.
The Rebels produced an under-par display as they went down 1-0 away to Cray Wanderers.
Jamie Wood scored the only goal of the contest in first-half stoppage time and Worthing rarely threatened to get back into the game against a resolute Cray side until the closing stages.
The hosts had the first chances of the contest, with Jamie Wood and Mark Willy each heading over the bar in the first six minutes.
Worthing's first attempt at goal came in the 13th minute when Karl Akehurst cracked a shot over the bar after Mickey Demetriou's free-kick was cleared to the edge of the box.
The visitors felt they should have had a penalty when substitute Tyrone Sterling appeared to handle Mickey Demetriou's deep cross but the referee ignored their appeals.
Despite a height disadvantage Cray had two further headed chances, from Scott Kinch on 26 minutes and Willy 12 minutes later, neither of which troubled Alan Mansfield.
The Revels had a great chance five minutes before the break when Andy Alexander headed inches wide from a teasing Jamie Brotherton corner.
Cray immediately responded with a low 20-yarder from Jamie Wood which Mansfield got down well to hold.
It was Wood who broke the deadlock in the second minute of stoppage time, running on to the ball 20 yards out to fire low into the bottom corner.
The Rebels came out fired up for the second half and went close to an equaliser in the 48th minute when Treleaven's shot from the edge of the penalty was turned round the near post by goalkeeper Glen Wright.
However, it was Cray who threatened to extend their lead in the 65th minute when Jamie Wood lifted the ball into the penalty area, Kinch's flick wrong-footed the defence but Bremner headed wide from a great position.
Worthing were struggling to break down their hosts side but they went close six minutes from time when Brotherton's deflected effort was tipped over the bar by Wright.
In a grandstand finish Will Jenkins had a late chance which he failed to take from close range.
