Horsham YMCA boss Chris White believes his side have hit form at the perfect time.
YMCA picked up just seven points from seven games during March but have bounced back with three wins on the spin in April.
They kept the pressure on leaders Eastbourne United with a convincing 4-1 win at Hailsham thanks to goals from Paul Elliott, Ryan Bradley, James Rhodes and a brilliant solo effort from Tom Manton.
Midfielder Adam Kneller had to go in goal for Hailsham after Glen Jenner was carried off with a suspected broken ankle early in the game.
White said: “We had a shocking March and I thought we had blown it but we have started April well so who knows?
“Eastbourne United are still in the driving seat but all we can do is win our four remaining games and see where it leaves us.”
Three Bridges remain just above YM in third after they thumped Shoreham 5-1 at home. Mark Zydonik gave them the perfect start after a minute and Joel O’Hara, Ashley Dugdale, Carl Dunk and 16-year-old substitute Elloitt Romain all helped themselves to goals after the visitors were reduced to ten men in the 20th minute.
Redhill’s hopes of finishing in the top two to win promotion ended as they conceded a late equaliser at Ringmer. Marcel Dennis had given the Lobsters the lead but Dave Altendorff levelled with a minute to go.
A brace from Adrian Brockway helped Chichester City to a 3-0 win at St Francis Rangers while Jordan Payne squandered a couple of late chances as Whitehawk had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Lingfield.
Steve Ahoua’s sixth goal in five games gave the visitors a half-time lead but Lee Pontin slotted home an equaliser 20 minutes from time.
Worthing United are the first team to be relegated from division one after all three teams above them won on Saturday.
Victories for East Preston, Oakwood and East Grinstead mean the Mavericks – who did not play at the weekend – are 11 points adrift of safety with three games remaining.
Goals from Andy Ducille and Ben Burns earned East Grinstead an impressive 2-0 win at Selsey but East Preston are just a point behind them after Terry Dodd struck twice in a 3-1 home win over Pagham.
Wasps boss Steve Johnson said: “We did what we needed to do and it was important with the two teams behind us both winning.
“I am more than confident we are good enough to stay up. East Preston have a game in hand but with the way we are playing they will need to win all three games and if they do that than fair play to them.”
Chris Williams scored his fifth goal in five games since being promoted from the reserves to keep Oakwood’s slim hopes of survival alive.
A 1-0 win at home to Hassocks leaves Oaks four points behind Grinstead with two games remaining and a vastly inferior goal difference.
Boss John Mist said: “It was frustrating the two above us won as well but at least it keeps us in it for another week.”
