BURGESS Hill breathed a sigh of relief after avoiding relegation from Ryman division one south.
The Hillians lost 2-0 at home to Met Police but Chipstead’s 4-2 loss at Godalming means they cannot catch Gary Croydon’s side.
Just one defeat in six before Saturday proved enough to keep Hillians up.
Assistant boss Andy Gander said: “Staying up was the most important thing on Saturday. The hard work was done in the previous weeks.
“When Gary took over he set a ten-point total to make us safe and that has proved to be enough.”
Steve Harper missed a penalty late on for the Hillians.
Bottom side Crowborough enjoyed a terrific 1-0 win at home to second-placed Cray Wanderers.
Wayne Clarke got the goal midway through the second half.
Manager Stuart Nowell said: “That win was for the fans, the players and everyone at the club who has worked so hard this year. It was a fantastic performance and what everyone deserved.”
Eastbourne Town signed off at home with a 2-0 defeat against Ashford Town.
The visitors went ahead midway through the first half and added a second five minutes into the restart after Ben Putland conceded a penalty.
Peter Cooper, Jamie Salvidge and Danny Simmonds had chances cleared off the line but it was not to be for Eastbourne.
Coach Micky French said: “We gifted Worthing four goals on Easter Monday and we gifted Ashford two goals on Saturday. That is an area we must improve.”
