Sussex youngsters caught the eye as English Schools under-18s beat Scotland in front of the live Sky Sports cameras last night.
Lewes winger David Wheeler was particularly impressive as England won 2-0 in their Centenary Shield clash at St Mirren.
His performance drew plaudits from former Celtic and Scotland winger Davie Provan, who was co-commentating on the match.
Wheeler’s Lewes team-mate Matt Whitehead, 16, also stood out on his first England start at left-back.
Meanwhile, Eastbourne Borough’s Simon Johnson produced a fine display to earn the man-of-the-match vote after being introduced as a half-time substitute when Eastbourne Town’s James Norwood was replaced.
Johnson played a holding midfield role, which he carried out superbly.
Goals from Taylor Morgan and Robert Carter gave England victory to send them second in the group. They will win the Centenary Shield if they beat leaders Republic of Ireland next Friday in another match televised on Sky.
