Worthing Raiders prepare to secure National League safety tomorrow with coach Ian Davies insisting his side are still right on course.
With two games to go, Raiders are locked on points and points difference with Lydney, who are in the drop zone.
It looks like cause to be alarmed at first glance.
But then consider that both Raiders and Lydney, who meet at Worthing tomorrow, share their parity on points difference with Chinnor.
Then be aware that Chinnor have just one game left.
And that one game? At home to unbeaten champions London Scottish.
Assuming Chinnor get nothing off Scottish, who thumped Worthing 71-13 last Saturday, one point will do it for both sides at Roundstone Lane.
Davies wants more than a point but said: “Nothing has changed from what we have been saying all along.
“We’ve always thought that, when Lydney came to Worthing, we would have to beat them to stay up.
“The goal is still to win this game, then relax when we go to Bridgwater for our final fixture and play some good rugby.
“The way things have gone this season Chinnor could pull off a miracle and get a point off Scottish.
“But they won’t beat them as long as Scottish take the game seriously and I think they will because they want to go unbeaten for the season.”
Havant have already filled the first relgataion berth, their desmise being confirmed when they lost to Worthing recently.
Davies said: “To stay up would be massive for us. The goal was to get the club into the National League, which we achieved, then to keep them there.
“I suppose it would be nice to finish the season up in tenth, that would be a successful season.
“But as long as we are not 13th or 14th it doesn’t matter.”
Relegation-threatened Haywards Heath will be sweating on results elsewhere if they fail to beat North Walsham in London One but a win should see them safe.
Heathfield and Waldron will go up from Four South East if they win a tough-looking game at Crowborough and second-placed Bromley slip at East Grinstead.
