Adam Moore has won the Sussex under-14s championship.
Moore, 13, who attends St Andrews school and is a Worthing junior, won on countback from Matt Hillier, of Beauport Park, to claim the Steve Stone Trophy at Hollingbury Park.
Off full handicap allowance, he actually covered Hollingbury's 5,970 yards in 85 strokes.
That was 11 fewer than Hamish Houston, of Royal Eastbourne, whose 76 won the scratch prize on a day when a gentle breeze made scoring tricky.
Among a series of outstanding performances, the gross 77 by nine year-old Charlie Strickland, of Rustington, stood out.
Also in contention for a prize was Marco Penge, aged just nine from Worthing, who went round in 78 and lost third place on countback.
The Steve Stone Trophy, inaugurated by Hollingbury’s former captain in 1990, is one of the most enjoyable fixtures on the county calendar.
The first winner was Worthing’s Darren Renwick who went on to captain England Boys and is now on a golf scholarship in America.
