Eastbourne Town picked up a 1-0 win at Walton and Hersham despite having to play centre-half Paul Richardson in goal.
Town lost first-choice keeper Russell Tanner to sickness on the coach going to the game but Richardson took the gloves and played his part in the victory.
Boss Ady Colwell said: “The main talking point was losing Russ on the way there.
“He was sent home and Paul went in goal even though he had only ever played a few games there on a Sunday.
“He made a couple of good saves too and we joked about him keeping his place for the Worthing game today.”
Striker Ethen Strevett got the goal in first-half stoppage-time, latching on to a Peter Cooper flick before getting the ball into his stride and firing a shot past the home goalkeeper into the far corner.
Town also lost Simon Catt during the game as he went off with a recurrence of an ankle injury.
Crowborough played well before going down 1-0 away to Croydon Athletic, who visit Worthing next Saturday.
Manager Stuart Nowell said: “We were superb and deserved a draw at least.
“We played some good football and worked exceptionally hard.”
