Striker Jon Shaw was given his first start for six games as Crawley attempted to keep their fading play-off challenge alive at second-placed Torquay in the Blue Square premier today.

Shaw, who has scored four goals since joining Reds on loan from Rochdale, partnered Jamie Cook for the first time.

It was one of two changes made by boss Steve Evans ahead of a hectic Easter programme which sees Crawley play three games in five days.

Lewis Killeen came into midfield in place of Mikey Malcolm, who was out of sorts in last week's 4-0 win over leaders Burton.

The Gulls won 1-0 at Burton on Monday to move within eight points of the leaders with a game in hand. They also entertain Burton in the last game of the season so the pressure on Paul Buckle's men this afternoon was immense.

Not surprisingly, Buckle named an unchanged line-up with ex-Reds Elliot Benyon and Mustapha Carayol among the subs.

Torquay: Bevan; Nicholson, Robertson, Todd, Mansell, Sills, Wroe, Hargreaves, Carlisle, Stevens, Sturrock. Subs: Brough, Benyon, D'Sane, Hodges, Carayol.

Crawley: Rayner; Giles, Quinn, Wright, Rents; Forrest, Wilson, Bulman, Killeen; Shaw, Cook. Subs: Matthews, Gaia, Malcolm, Hurren, Rankin.

Referee: Brendan Malone (Wiltshire).
