Worthing skipper Jody Levett admits he is almost certain to hang up his boots at the end of the season.

And the last thing he wants is to go out on relegation.

Levett has led his side to National Three South for the first time in their history but that status could be under serious threat by 4.30pm tomorrow.

Raiders are five points clear of the drop zone but face a tough home clash with champions London Scottish while Bridgwater, just below the relegation line, host mid-table Henley.

Levett admitted he was thinking of retiring last summer until Raiders made the big step up.

He said: “I’ve done what I can and enjoyed it. Unless there is some major change I’m 99% certain to call it a day.

“I haven’t sat down and discussed it with the committee at Worthing but it is no secret around the club.

“In my heart of hearts I considered whether to finish last year but we got to National Three and, having worked so hard, it was good to have a crack at it.

“I want to finish at a good level. Hopefully the club remains in National Three and I can say ‘thank you for everything’ and move on.

“I’ll be 35 next year and the body hurts a bit more after games these days.”

Levett, who eventually plans to move into coaching, would love to see his side nick even a losing bonus off unbeaten Scottish.

He said: “They are a quality side and deserved winners in a strong league.”

Brighton Blues say they have a score to settle as they aim to make it a county double by winning the Sussex Shield.

They have already beaten Uckfield to the Sussex One title and tomorrow’s league trip to their rivals now also counts as the delayed Shield final.

Brighton player/coach Neil McGovern said: “Their guy insinuated earlier in the season that our boys were getting paid big money and that upset a few of them.

“There’s a rivalry and a score to settle there.”

Uckfield coach Rob Outen, the man to whom McGovern was referring, rates his side as underdogs.

He said: “It’s a big day for the club against a team that is going to Twickenham.

“They have played some fantastic rugby this season and have some very good players.

“Virtually all their players could play a lot higher but they have managed, for whatever reason, to keep them at the club so good luck to them.”

Tomorrow’s fixtures (3pm unless stated) National Three South: Worthing Raiders v London Scottish.

London Three South West: Tottonians v Bognor.

Sussex Shield final: Uckfield v Brighton (2.30pm at Uckfield, also counts for Sussex One points).
