Lewes are back went top of Blue Square south after a superb 3-1 win at Cambridge City.

In blustery conditions both teams struggled to settle with the home side creating the better of the opportunities in the first 15 minutes.

Lewes, with former City favourite Paul Booth returning to Milton Road, created their first chance on 17 minutes when the ball broke for Jamie Cade who shot across goal but his effort went well wide.

The game sprung to life on 27 minutes when Lewes were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box. Booth's effort should have been comfortably saved by Ashley Timms but the City stopper fumbled a routine catch which allowed Stephen Robinson to bundle the opener home.

Three minutes later City were level when Josh Simpson found space and his shot took a wicked deflection off Robinson which wrong-footed Michael Jordan to make it 1-1.

City seemed to be back in the game but Lewes stole the advantage once more on 34 minutes. Again fingers were pointed at Timms as he slipped chasing a forward ball that allowed Gary Holloway a shot that was parried by the goalkeeper only for Matthew Groves to smash home the rebound.

The home side could have drawn level three minutes after the break when Dave Theobald met a high ball but his header went wide of the target.

A minute later Theobald and Timms were indecisive and almost let in Booth. His pass found Groves whose effort was cleared off the line by Lee Chaffey.

Lewes deservedly extended their lead on 59 minutes when Booth found himself in space. His shot was well saved by Timms but the ball fell kindly to Andy Drury who gleefully slotted home.

Bognor, who sold striker Luke Nightingale to Havant on Friday, lost 2-0 to two second-half goals against Newport.

Are Lewes going to win the title now or can Borough still come out on top?
