Bognor suffered their first defeat in five games, going down 1-0 at Eastleigh in Blue Square south.
Play-off chasing Eastleigh missed an early chance when Matt Hann stumbled when clean through before Ashley Vickers' header produced a smart save from Craig Stoner.
The Eastleigh defender then headed a free-kick off target.
Bognor's first chance fell to Mark Knee, whose low drive from the edge of the box forced Jason Matthews to make a save and they should have gone in front when Seb Wallis-Taylor's angled effort flew over after a flowing move.
It proved a costly miss with Andy Forbes breaking the deadlock on 54 minutes when he latched on to a pass which deflected off a defender before firing past Stoner.
Bognor rallied towards the end and even Stoner joined the attack but the game ended on a sour note for the visitors with skipper Chris Breach requiring lengthy treatment for an injury.
