Crowborough's title celebrations were put on hold following a humbling 4-0 reverse away to Redhill.

The leaders went into the game needing just a point to be crowned County League champions for the first time in their history.

Despite this defeat the destiny of the title remains a formality and Crows will hope to seal it in front of their own fans against Three Bridges on Saturday.

Joint manager Harry Smith said: "You can't go through the season without one disaster and this was it. For the first time this year we didn't click, we didn't play football and we gave the ball away.

"Hopefully this will be a reminder that we still need a point."

Ross Treleaven set the tone for Crowborough with a second-minute penalty miss and Redhill went on to dominate with goals from Wayne Robinson (two), Tony Reid and substitute Warren Bogle.

Second-placed Whitehawk kept the title race mathematically alive with a 3-0 win away to Ringmer thanks to goals from Ryan Bradley (two) and assistant-manager Paul Stevenson.

Sidley United made it three wins on the trot to maintain their late bid to get out of trouble at the bottom.

Steve Morris hit a late winner from the penalty spot, his second goal of the game, as Sidley twice came from behind to win 3-2 at home to rock bottom Rye, who finished with nine men for the second time in three days.

Michael O'Callaghan also netted for the hosts while Dickson and Chris Gould were on target for Rye, who had Chris Rea and Lewis Parsons sent off.

Sidley boss Andy Laskey said: "We have used 50 different players this year and that is down to injuries. Now we have a settled side we are picking up points and I just hope it isn't too late."

Chichester remain third from bottom after a 4-0 defeat at home to Arundel, for whom Howard Neighbour hit a hat-trick.

Three other strugglers picked up points with Tom Lyons hitting a late equaliser to earn Oakwood a point at Three Bridges and Worthing United hold John O'Hara League Cup winners Shoreham to a goalless draw.

Selsey won their second game of the weekend as Ross Woolf and Mark Lee struck in a 2-1 win at Pagham.

In division two, Mile Oak moved to within a point of the top three - none of whom won - after a 2-1 success at Southwick thanks to an own goal and Scott Carden's second-half winner.

East Grinstead need a point to secure promotion after they were held to a 1-1 draw by third-placed Lingfield.
