Crowborough need just a draw at Redhill on Monday to clinch their first County League title after Whitehawk's miserable run of form continued on Saturday.

The Hawks were held to a goalless draw against Redhill and, although they can still mathematically pull level with the leaders if they win their remaining four games, Crowborough's goal difference is far superior.

Whitehawk now face a battle to hold on to the runners-up spot after East Preston's 1-0 victory over Hailsham saw them move within five points with a game in hand. Leo Day scored the only goal after 32 minutes from Richard Carter's cut-back.

Boss Chris White said: "It would be a fantastic achievement for us to finish second. We've got a good chance of doing it if we win our five remaining games as Whitehawk are struggling a bit at the moment."

It was a big day at the bottom of the table as Selsey pulled clear of the relegation zone with an emphatic 4-0 win at fellow strugglers Rye.

All four goals came in the second half with Jake Lafferty grabbing a hat-trick and Tom Ridley completing the scoring after Rye had been reduced to nine men -including another red card for Duncan McArthur.

Selsey boss Danny Hinshelwood said: "We were the better side by miles and they just tried to kick us off the park. There is still a long way to go until we are safe but it was a major three points and if we could beat Pagham today things will be looking up."

Worthing United and Oakwood are both still in trouble after losing at home to Hassocks and Wick respectively.

Steve Gault and Laurence Robinson secured a 2-0 win for Hassocks while substitute James West's 25-yarder was the pick of the goals in Wick's 4-0 victory. Scott Murfin, Phil Turner and Paul Elliott completed the rout.

Pagham boss Gary Block believes his side are almost safe after Michael Frangou's 73rd-minute volley sealed a 1-0 win at Eastbourne United to pull them eight points clear of the drop zone.

Robert Cooper scored twice in the last quarter of an hour and Jake Forward was also on target in St Francis Rangers' 3-1 home win over Three Bridges. Hassan Nyang grabbed a last-minute consolation.

Sidley's match with Arundel was postponed.
