Former Eastbourne Eagles favourite Davey Watt was man-of-the-meeting as Poole started Good Friday with a home win.
The Pirates held off Eastbourne 51-43 in the morning Craven Shield fixture on the back of 13 paid points from five rides by Watt.
The Aussie was twice beaten by Scott Nicholls, who scored 16 points from five rides, one of which was tactical.
Nicholls would have posted a memorable full maximum had he not been beaten by Chris Holder when wearing white and black in heat 11.
Poole's lead peaked at 35-25 after a heat-ten maximum. Edward Kennett's haul included four points as a tactical substitute riding off a 15-metre handicap, with Cameron Woodward cleverly slowing on the line to allow him into second place Poole: Watt 11+2 (5), Holder 11 (5), Skornicki 8+1 (4), Suchecki 6 (4), Eriksson 5+3 (4), Pedersen 5+2 (4), Zabik 5+1 (4).
Eagles: Nicholls 16 (5), Kennett 11 (6), Bridger 6+1 (4), Richardson 6 (4), Woodward 3+1 (4), Brundle 1 (3), Gustafsson 0 (4).
