Two Sussex basketball clubs aiming to join the top flight should know where they stand by the end of the month.

Worthing Thunder and Brighton Cougars are both aiming to be part of the British League next season.

There was hope they might have news by this weekend.

Now Thunder have revealed they were asked to provide extra information by the BBL.

Thunder, who look to be relinquishing their England Basketball League title after last week's defeat at leaders Manchester, need to have a verdict from the BBL by March 31.

Frank Gainsbury, one of the new directors planning to take Worthing up a level, said: "We have been told we will get an answer after Easter.

"We have a deadline with the EBL at the end of March so we will need to know whether we need to go back there next season.

"If we get an offer from the BBL, there will then be a further negotiating opportunity.

"We would have to look at the terms of the franchise very closely."

Thunder could still be passed by Reading in the run-in and thoughts are turning to the play-offs. A win at home to Sheffield tonight will clinch home advantage in the quarter-finals.

Tonight's game tips-off at 8pm and children under 16 get in for £1, rather than the usual £5, on production of a voucher which can be printed from the club's website at worthing-thunder.org.uk.
