Ben Evans is finding out about how hard life can be on the Challenge Tour.

The 21-year-old, from Staplecross, has travelled thousands of miles and picked up just 1,200 euros in prize money and left himself well out of pocket.

His father Glyn said: "Once he beds down and conditions himself to the different type of courses and the way they are set up he will be all right.

"He knows what needs to be done and isn't one to be put off by a bad round or two.

"It will be interesting to see what happens in the Madeira Open following a long break after the Indonesian Open when he struggled on the grainy greens in 98 per cent humidity and finished near the bottom."

Evans, pictured, was 11 over in Jakarta and finished in 152nd spot.

He has been practising in Granada with coach Stuart Morgan and gets help from sports psychologist Stuart Fomes.

Glynn said: "After Madeira we fly back to Stansted, switch to Heathrow and catch a flight to Buenos Aires.

"It's going to be a bit of rush but that's the way things are."

Evans said: "It is better for me to start on the Challenge Tour.

"Had I won a place on the European Tour I would have been pitched into a series of tournaments, whereas I needed time to work on my swing with my coach. There is no point in winning a card only to hand it straight back."
