Karl Flynn and Rick Walshaw will be looking from completely different viewpoints when they meet in the Sussex Trophy final.

And not just because they are in charge of the competing teams.

Flynn, the player/coach who has led Bognor to an unbeaten season in London Four South East so far reckons the Trophy has been revitalised by the absence of Haywards Heath and Worthing.

However Walshaw, coach of London Three outfit Eastbourne, feels it was devalued when the county's big two were placed into a new Challenge Cup.

Both men, though, want to offer a great advert for what Flynn calls "the non-expense-paying clubs" when they clash at Waterhall on Sunday (3pm).

Flynn, whose side are missing threequarters Dan Brock and Dave Sweeney, said: "We aren't favourites but we've got a great chance.

"With Heath and Worthing in the Trophy, people did not really care because they thought they would never win it.

"Now we have a chance to prove a point. The new look has brought a lot of people's appetites back for the Trophy."

Centre Sweeney has a broken collarbone while wing Brock is playing for England Colleges.

Walshaw is delighted Eastbourne go into the final on the back of a league win over Chichester.

He said: "It's going to be a competitive game and I hope we see some enterprise.

"I believe the new format has devalued the Sussex Cup. You should have everybody in it."

Flynn's assertion that Bognor are underdogs could be open to question. They are playing London Three standard rugby and clinched promotion a few weeks ago. They are also the form side.

Walshaw said: "Teams who are on a winning streak like Bognor at the moment are exceedingly hard to beat. We did it to them last year. We were in Four and they were in Three so they will want to turn the tables."

Eastbourne welcome back James Coulthard to their midfield unit after a hand injury.

Meanwhile Bognor's injury problems mean 42-year-old Stuart Pearce could see final action.

Flynn said: "We haven't selected the team yet but he's in the squad.

"We are confident but it all comes down to what happens on the day. We haven't been to watch Eastbourne. They saw us against Crowborough but it maybe wasn't the best one to choose."

Neither side has won the Trophy before so a new name will go on the silverware.
