Sussex football has paid tribute to Sid Pittman, who died on Wednesday evening after a short illness.

Sid, who was 59, was still treasurer of the Sussex Sunday Youth League from his Morecambe home where he moved to six years ago.

He will be remembered for his work in a number of roles with various leagues, including the County League, as a council member with the Sussex County FA and for his media work for the Evening Argus and BBC Radio Sussex.

Ken Benham, chief executive of the County FA, said: "Sid was a great servant to Sussex football. He was one of those loyal people who did everything and never moaned about it."

Pat Dartnell, chair of the Sussex Sunday Youth League, was today comforting Sid's widow Kathy. The couple had no children.

Mrs Dartnell said: "He will be a very hard act to follow. He will be greatly missed for everything he has contributed to football in Sussex."

Peter Bentley, chairman of the County League, added: "Sid was a very dedicated person to whatever job he turned his hand to. He did our bulletin for a number of years and you can't replace people like that."

There is no date yet for his funeral.
