Pro-Am Gym (Brighton) kick-boxer Stacey Gosden has made an impression in the United States which could lead to more trans-Atlantic fights.

Gosden, the British light and superlightweight champion, made his international debut on the undercard of a IKF world title clash in Bradenton, Florida.

He claimed a unanimous points victory over American Devon Holland at light-welterweight. Gosden put his opponent down in the first round and the fifth and final round to delight his trainer and father Steve.

Steve, speaking from Clearwater, Florida, said: "Everyone was really impressed with Stacey's performance.

"The Americans thought highly of their fighter and they were not expecting Stacey to do a number on him like that.

"The conditions were not ideal either as the arena was unbearably hot - even the locals were struggling to cope.

"It was his toughest fight to date and the win looks like it may open up a few doors for him.

"There were a number of promoters there for the show and I have already been tapped up about a fight in New York in the future.

"They liked what they saw because it was all-action from beginning to end.

"It was an excellent performance by Stacey but it needed to be or he would have been beaten."

Holland was trained by former world champion Erik Marshall, who fought Steve in 1995. Stacey's victory took his record to one defeat in 16 fights.
