Whitehawk boss Ian Chapman is praying there will be one final twist in the County League title race today.
Eastbourne Town will be crowned champions if they win at Oakwood while a point would be enough for Ady Colwell's side if the Hawks fail to beat Sidley at home.
Town remain hot favourites courtesy of a 4-0 win at Three Bridges on Saturday which preserved their one-point lead over the Hawks, who won by an identical scoreline at Ringmer.
Chapman said: "Eastbourne are massive favourites now but if anyone deserves a bit of luck it is us.
"If you had said to me at the start of the season that we would only lose two games and concede just 17 goals by this stage I would have assumed we had won the league already.
"We are unbeaten away from home and had a terrific run in the FA Vase so it would be harsh to finish the season empty-handed but sometimes football is unfair.
"We have got to do the business our end and hope Oakwood do us a favour. I know they will have a real go against Eastbourne so we have just got to hope it is enough."
The Hawks kept the pressure up with four goals in the first half at Ringmer from Gareth Green, Ryan McBride, Tommy Pattenden and Stuart Garrod.
Town were similarly convincing at Three Bridges, racing into a 3-0 lead inside 22 minutes through Andy Ducille, Greg Manton and John Piercy before Danny Simmonds completed the scoring with five minutes to go.
The leaders made light of the absence of 43-goal striker Liam Baitup but face a striker crisis for their crucial game at Oakwood today after Steve Dallaway aggravated a knee injury in the warm-up.
Colwell said: "The first half was probably as complete a performance as I have seen this season and I told the boys that if they play anywhere near as well today then we will win the league.
"Some of the lads were in a celebratory mood after the game on Saturday and I had to remind them we had not won anything yet. I think Whitehawk will win so we've got to make sure we do the same.
"There are bound to be a few nerves in the tummy but we will approach the match in the same way we have done for all our games this season and try to stay as calm as possible."
Crowborough finished the season with a 2-1 victory at East Preston but could still be denied third place on goal difference today if Arundel, who beat Shoreham 3-1 on Saturday, win at Chichester.
Dan Leach has a chance to pip Liam Baitup as Sussex's leading goalscorer today after hitting four in Hailsham's 5-0 win against Littlehampton to take his tally to 42. The former Albion scholar needs to find the net twice against Ringmer to top the goal charts.
Matt Amos and Tony Hibbert were on target as Hassocks cemented fifth place with a 2-1 home win over Rye while Eastbourne United scored four goals in 19 second-half minutes in a 5-0 win over Selsey to leapfrog them in to seventh place.
Gavin Geddes scored all four as Worthing United finished the season on a high note with a 4-2 win at home against Chichester while Oakwood beat Wick 2-1 at home and Sidley enjoyed a 3-1 victory at Redhill.
l Sam Jeremiah fired an 89th-minute winner at division two champions Pagham to book St Francis Rangers' place in the top flight next season. The victory secured Rangers second place with Westfield third after a goalless draw against Peacehaven.
Broadbridge Heath were relegated following a 1-0 defeat at Seaford with Storrington, 3-1 winners against Midhurst, surviving.
