Manager Harry Smith hopes Crowborough Athletic's John O'Hara League Cup success can be a launchpad to greater things.
Goals by skipper Craig Bishop and teenage frontman Ross Treleaven at The Caburn earned their side the trophy for the first time in their history.
Striker Chris Honey had struck for Sidley after only eight minutes but it was Borough celebrating a 2-1 win at the end and dreaming of more silverware in seasons to come.
Smith said: "I thought we deserved the victory and, hopefully, this will be the start of bigger things for this club.
"This can be a springboard to improve as a team and as a club."
Borough always looked the more dangerous throughout although Sidley had their moments.
The warnings were there for Sidley as early as the fifth minute when Bishop had a weak header at the far post comfortably gathered by Peter Newstead and within seconds right midfielder Wayne Clarke beat Newstead but Owen Ball cleared off the line.
An excellent through ball by Graham Morris released Paul Balch three minutes later but he scuffed his shot when one-on-one with the keeper.
It had looked a costly miss but within 60 seconds Sidley were ahead when an excellent cross by Scott McDonald was headed home by Honey.
Newstead tipped over a fierce Treleaven half-volley within a minute of the goal but the towering Bishop headed Borough level from their best move of the half on 28 minutes when he met Clarke's far post cross following good work by Treleaven to find the winger in space.
Four minutes later Borough took the lead when Sidley centre half Dave Henham's attempt to head back to his keeper fell short and Treleaven superbly lobbed the advancing Newstead.
Sidley had more possession going up the slope after the break but lacked penetration in the final third. Two individual moments of skill were the highlights.
Treleaven almost added a third after a meandering solo run but the finish went inches wide as Newstead got a touch while Borough keeper Rob Gordon denied McDonald when his acrobatic over-head kick almost gave Sidley a lifeline on 76 minutes.
Despite late pressure, Borough's defenders were resolute with Phil Rhodes and Justin Harris snuffing out much of Sidley's aerial threat.
Smith was happy to enjoy the moment with a bottle of champagne in one hand and the trophy in the other but he insisted there is still work to be done this season in the league.
He said: "It is probably beyond us but we are going to keep going for the league title.
"It is very important to us that we finish in the top three."
Skipper Bishop, who has been with the club since he was eight, said: "This means the world to me as you can see from the celebrations at the end.
"It's the culmination of a lot of hard work, both on and off the pitch, and is a great feeling.
"It's onwards and upwards for the club now."
Treleaven, 19, who took his tally to 29 goals for the campaign and also collected the man-of-the-match award, said: "I'm ecstatic. It's terrific for me and it is my first senior cup."
Sidley co-manager Andy Laskey was disappointed with his side's performance.
He said: "I don't know if we showed them too much respect or what it was but we were like rabbits in the headlights in the opening half-hour even with the goal.
"We tried to wind them up and get them going but it just did not happen. We gave it a go in the second half but the damage was done by then."
