Lewes manager Steve Ibbitson was disappointed, despite an impressive 2-2 draw at Newport County.
Ibbitson’s side led 2-1 until four minutes from time.
The Lewes boss said: “If you had offered me 2-2 in the morning I would have taken it but when you are 2-1 up with four minutes to go it seems like a loss. I am disappointed we didn’t win but we played well and scored two great goals.”
Sam Crabb fired Lewes into a half-time lead, scoring after his initial effort was saved. Newport levelled four minutes into the restart but Lewes restored their advantage midway through the half with a side-foot finish by Joe Keehan from David Wheeler’s excellent run and cross.
The Rooks were without injured striker Dan Beck but Jack Walder was impressive on his debut.
Lewes: Banks; Barness, Cullip, Breach, Fisk; Wheeler, Walder, Keehan, Peauroux, Sutton (sub Kirkwood); Crabb (sub Rivers). Subs not used: Foreman, Chamberlain, Pearson.
