Eastbourne Borough snatched victory against the run of play thanks to a wonder strike from Neil Jenkins.
AFC Wimbledon had been the better side in the first half but were unable to take a number of chances.
They found themselves behind in the 50th minute when Jenkins launched a shot into the top corner from 25 yards.
That should have given Borough confidence but instead the visitors pushed for an equaliser and the home side were clinging on at the end.
Borough had looked shakey at the back in the first half in front of a crowd of 3,108 and Marc Pullan almost gifted Danny Kedwell a goal in the tenth minute.
Derek Duncan also drew a low save from Danny Knowles while a sliced clearance from Dan Smith had the goalkeeper scrambling to claw the ball off the line.
Borough's best chance of the first half came when Danny Brown shot wide from 20 yards but it was from another long range effort that they took the lead five minutes after the interval.
Danny Brown had switched the ball across the pitch to Matt Crabb who helped it on to Jenkins. He strode on towards the edge of the box before unleashing an unstoppable drive.
Knowles made two good saves to protect the advantage as he clung on to a header from Lewis Taylor and then held on to a powerful drive from Luke Moore.
Jamie Taylor almost made sure of the points with a glancing header which drifted just wide.
