Steve Ibbitson was disappointed not to take all three points as Lewes began the new Blue Square south season with a 1-1 draw at home to Weymouth.

Dan Beck scored a goal on his debut and had another disallowed as the Rooks bossed proceedings for much of the game.

Boss Ibbitson said: “We played really well and I wasn’t that impressed with them. They just banged it long.

“We were far and away the better side and we should have won. I’m pleased with the way we played but disappointed we didn’t take all three points because we deserved to.”

A crowd of 441 saw Weymouth take the lead against the run of play on 61 minutes through Matt Cooper, who looked suspiciously offside.

Summer signing Beck levelled within a minute with a smart finish following good work from the impressive David Wheeler.

Beck had another effort wiped out for offside, strike partner Sam Crabb went close and Chris Breach was unlucky with a late header.

Lewes: Banks, Barness, Fisk, Cullip, Peauroux (sub Chamberlain 66), Breach, Wheeler, Keehan, Beck (sub Kirkwood 89), Crabb, Royce (sub Storrie 66). Subs not used: Walder, Pearson.
