Steve King an immediate move into the transfer market after answering Whitehawk’s ”keep us up” plea.
King plans to have new faces on board as soon as possible for the Vanarama National League south’s winless bottom team.
He gets a first-hand taste of the job for which he has given up a full-time recruitment post at Dagenham and Redbridge when Hawks host Oxford City in the FA Cup tomorrow.
King’s appointment on a three-year deal was confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.
He told The Argus: “I’ve been full-time at Dagenham and it was a big wrench to give it up.
“John Still gave me an opportunity there and I loved it. But I’m a manager really.
“Whitehawk are bottom of the league but I believe in my ability to keep them up. I understand what works in football.
“What Whitehawk offered was right for me.”
Hawks have been run on a tight budget this season but King says he has backing to sign players.
He added: “I’ve put my faith in the club and they have put their faith in me.
“They need to back that and that is what they are doing. I can find players.”
King returns to the club he left 19 months ago and who have never found a long-term successor since then.
He hopes for a period of stability and said: “The length of the deal is right.
“I gave up a good job to come back and manage here.
“It’s not going to be an easy task because they are bottom of the league for a reason.
“A number of players here are not good enough and I need to bring in better players.”
King’s return has sparked excitement among Hawks fans who fondly recall league success and a run to the second round of the FA Cup under his tenure.
