Winger Ben Johnson is unlikely to play any part in Bognor’s push for a play-off spot in Ryman premier.
Johnson has been sidelined since aggravating a knee injury in the goalless draw at Harrow Borough at the end of November but was expected to return next month.
But boss Jamie Howell is concerned the former Worthing midfielder could break down again if brought back too soon and is keen to give Johnson extra time to ensure the knee, which underwent cruciate ligament surgery last summer, is fully recovered.
Howell said: “I’m a bit nervous about playing Ben again this season. It might be best to write him off this season and have him back fully fit next year.
“He could play in the next week or two but he wouldn’t be 100% and you have to make the decision about whether it is worth the risk.
“It is a difficult one because if we had him back I think we could really do something. He could be the final piece in the jigsaw we desperately need but there is no point gambling if he does it again.”
