Chris Nash scored his 11th first class century as Sussex reached 305-9 at the close on the opening day of their County Championship match with Nottinghamshire at Hove.

Nash shared in a fifth-wicket partnership of 145 with Luke Wright who continued his impressive form with a patient 81.

The pair had put Sussex on top after they lost quick three wickets for 18 runs either side of lunch.

Nash was eventually dismissed for 128 and Wright followed soon after as Nottinghamshire fought back in the evening session.

Nash had made 84 and 98 in the previous game against Worcestershire and carried on where he left off.

He was dropped on 19 by Adam Voges at second slip and again on 83 and took full advantage of those reprieves.

He brought up his century off 144 balls with 14 fours before his four hour 26 minute innings came to an end when he was bowled by Harry Gurney.

Wright looked on course for a second century in the space of 24 hours until he pulled a ball from Samit Patel - who was the pick of the bowlers with 3-66 - to short mid-wicket where Andre Adams took a superb catch.

Other than those two it was a disappointing day for Sussex's batsman with nobody able to get past 19.

Murray Goodwin failed once again when he departed for just one thanks to a sensational diving catch from Voges at slip. The veteran batsman has now made just 39 runs in eight Championship innings this season.

He was not the only batsman who was unable to contribute as Ed Joyce, Mike Yardy, Joe Gatting and Ben Brown all failed to get past 19.

Only some late runs down the order from Naved Arif (24 not out) and Steve Magoffin got Sussex to a third batting point.
