Luke Wright is poised to make his long-awaited return for Sussex tomorrow.

The England all-rounder has not played for his county for ten months due to a combination of injury, illness and IPL commitments.

He missed the last two months of last season after undergoing knee surgery and then the opening month of the new campaign when he linked up with Pune Warriors.

The 27-year-old then went down with a combination of tonsillitis and a mystery virus but made his comeback in a 2nd XI clash with Kent at Arundel Castle this week.

Wright admit he is still not 100% but is confident of being ready for Sussex’s second CB40 clash of the season at Northamptonshire tomorrow.

He said: “I think I’ll be fine for Sunday. I’m looking forward to it as when you have been ill and haven’t been able to play cricket you are desperate to get back out there.

“I’ve missed playing for Sussex and would love to be able to make an impact against Northants.”

Sussex romped to a 144-run victory in their opening CB40 match against Unicorns at Hove last weekend and will be looking to build on that against a Northants side who have taken only one point from two games.

Wright is likely to be the only change to the side which triumphed against Unicorns with coach Mark Robinson facing the dilemma of who to leave out.

The first day of Sussex’s County Championship fixture at home to Nottinghamshire next Friday will begin at the later time of 11.30am due to the CB40 match at home to Yorkshire the previous evening.

Guernsey beat Canada in a last-over thriller at Hove yesterday. Chasing Canada’s 146-4 in a contest reduced to 20 overs per side by rain, they won by five wickets with five balls to spare.

The game was part of a link-up between Sussex County Cricket Club and the Guernsey Cricket Board.

Guernsey Cricket Board chief executive Mark Latter said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for the guys.”
