Sussex suffered their second worst defeat in Twenty20 history to leave the hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals in doubt.

James Vince smashed an unbeaten 85 and put on 94 in 47 balls with Neil McKenzie as Hampshire Hawks made 193-2.

It was the highest score at Hove by any team in T20 this season and proved well beyond Sussex's reach as they were bowled out for just 81 in 17.1 overs.

The result means they must win their final south division game against Surrey at Hove on Friday to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Vince was in top form as he made 85 off just 49 balls with five fours and six sixes.

He came in after Jimmy Adams was trapped lbw by Naved Arif for 34 off 26 balls and put on 48 off 38 balls with Shahid Afridi.

When Afridi went for 24 he and McKenzie really began to cut loose, adding 62 off the final five overs.

Sussex's reply never really got going as Dimitri Mascarenhas (3-20) removed Matt Prior, Murray Goodwin and Chris Nash to leave the hosts on 42-4 after seven overs.

Only a top score of 15 from Ollie Rayner ensured they surpassed their previous lowest total of 67 in the competition but he was last out to give Danny Briggs his fourth victim (4-17).
