Sussex’s bid to reach the final of the 2nd XI One-Day Trophy failed at Horsham where Lancashire thrashed them in the semi-final by 148 runs.
Pace bowler Oliver Newby took 5-15 and left-arm spinner Stephen Parry 3-21 as Sussex, set a target of 259, crumbled to 109 all out in 27.3 overs.
Sussex never looked like mounting a serious challenge and Ollie Rayner, pictured, coming in at No.8, top scored with 26 not out. Lancashire earlier posted 258-8 after winning the toss with Parry hitting 50 not out while Karl Brown and Gareth Cross also made half-centuries. The result was a particular disappointment to Sussex, who had only previously lost four games in all cricket this season.
