Dwayne Smith took a hat-trick and four wickets in an over as Sussex Sharks extended their lead at the top of the Pro40 League to three points after a hefty 152 runs win over Nottinghamshire Outlaws at Hove tonight.
The 26-year-old all-rounder removed Bilal Shafayat, Kevin O’Brien and Jake Ball with the last three balls of his third over having already had Alex Hales brilliantly caught down the leg side by wicketkeeper Andy Hodd off the first ball of the over.
It was sensational stuff by Smith who had triggered Outlaws’ collapse with his best ball of the night - an inswinging yorker which removed Australian Adam Voges for one.
Shafayat was caught at short fine leg, O’Brien walked in front of a straight one and Ball, on his one-day debut, was bowled neck and crop.
Nottinghamshire were dismissed for 102, having lost their last nine wickets for 35 runs in 9.2 overs.
Earlier Sussex had been dismissed for 254 with Rory Hamilton-Brown's 49 from 27 balls the top score. Smith contributed 27 including two sixes out of the ground before he chased a wide one and was caught at backward point.
