Sussex have re-signed Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla.
The 20-year-old, who played two Championship games for the county in June, will make his return against Lancashire at Old Trafford today.
He takes over from Yasir Arafat who told Sussex a fortnight ago to look for a replacement because he was expecting to be in Pakistan’s squad for the Champions Trophy later this month.
Arafat only discovered at the weekend that he had been left out and by then Sussex had lined up Chawla for a second stint as overseas player.
Arafat will return home next week to rest before linking up with Sussex again in October in India for the Twenty20 Champions League.
Chawla made a sensational impact during his brief spell with Sussex earlier in the season. He scored an unbeaten 102 on his Championship debut against Worcestershire and took 19 wickets in two appearances.
Chawla had already been recruited for Sussex’s Champions League campaign as one of their two overseas players.
