JOE GATTING could be in line for a recall when Sussex face Durham Dynamos in tonight’s must-win Pro40 League clash at Hove (4.40pm).
The champions are without England pair Luke Wright and Matt Prior and have also lost Chris Nash, who sprained his ankle whilst fielding on the final day of last week’s Championship game against Somerset.
Nash is rated 50-50 for Sunday’s game against Yorkshire Carnegie at Scarborough but should be fit for the resumption of Championship action at Old Trafford next week.
The champions can ill afford a second defeat after losing their first game of the competition against Somerset and their hopes will be boosted by the absence of both of their Ashes winners, Graham Onions and Steve Harmison, from the Durham squad.
Meanwhile Wright made 36 and Matt Prior 29 as England beat Ireland by two runs under the Duckworth-Lewis method in their ODI in Belfast.
Ireland, chasing an adjusted target of 116 in 20 overs, finished on 113-9.
Will Beer 4-33, seamer James Thorpe 3-25 and Ollie Rayner 2-44 as Sussex II beat MCC Universities by 156 runs in their 2nd XI Championship match at Horsham.
The visitors were set 329 to winafter Sussex had declared their second innings on 225-5 with opener Gatting making 77, Ben Brown 56 and Matt Machen 46 not out.
