Dwayne Smith smacked 59 off just 26 balls to help Sussex Sharks to 172-6 after they had batted first in tonight's Twenty20 Cup final against Somerset Sabres at Edgbaston.
The West Indies' all-rounder hit seven fours and three sixes and went from 10 to 49 from just 16 deliveries.
With Chris Nash (28) and Yasir Arafat (21*) adding 46 for the seventh wicket, the highest stand of the innings, the Sharks gave themselves the chance of winning the cup for the first time having already secured qualification for the Champions League by beating Northamptonshire Steelbacks by seven wickets in the semi-final.
