Matt Prior will not play in the T20 finals after Sussex agreed to an ECB request that he be rested from Saturday;s Edgbaston showdown.
Prior, 27, suffered a back spasm during the warm-up before last week's fourth Test and although he has made a full recovery England did not want him to be risked before the Ashes decider at the Oval next week.
Hugh Morris, the managing director of England Cricket, said: "The England team management were keen for Matt to be rested from all cricket in the period leading up to the 5th npower Test Match and we are extremely grateful to Sussex for their co-operation and understanding in relation to this matter."
Andrew Hodd will take Prior's place.
