Ed Joyce proved he is in top form ahead of the new season with his second century since joining Sussex in the winter.
Joyce scored 101 to help Sussex to a comfortable win in their two-day friendly against Northamtonshire at Hove yesterday.
It followed the 128 the former Middlesex left-hander made against a Fly Emirates team in the ProARCH Trophy in Dubai last month.
Joyce came in after Rory Hamilton-Brown and Mike Yardy had put on 85 for the first wicket as Sussex chased Northants’ total of 316-5.
Brown fell for 41 and Yardy followed for 51 but Joyce continued to pile on the runs as Carl Hopkinson, Joe Gatting and Luke Wright all departed cheaply.
Joyce’s innings eventually came to an end when he was caught on the boundary off the bowling of England spinner Monty Panesar.
Andrew Hodd made a quickfire 36 and Robin Martin-Jenkins finished unbeaten on 47 as Sussex reached their target with two wickets to spare.
Sussex begin another two-day friendly against Kent at Hove tomorrow.
