Sussex coach Mark Robinson has praised the contribution of rookie seamer Rageb Aga after the county completed back-to-back pre- season wins over Glamorgan.

Aga, who is in his first year on the county staff, followed up his 3-47 in Monday's win with 4-30 from 5.4 overs before Sussex scored 15 off the last over to complete a three-wicket win.

The Kenyan-born 23-year-old, who became a British citizen earlier this year, harnessed helpful conditions to show that, allied to a good wrist action, he is capable of swinging the ball both ways.

Robinson was pleased with the way he bowled at the end of Glamorgan's innings today, which had been reduced to 40 overs because of morning rain.

He said: "Rags bowled well with the new ball on Monday but took a bit of tap at the end of the innings.

"Today he didn't come on until the end but he had a much clearer plan as to how he was going to bowl.

"He's still quite raw but potentially he is a very exciting cricketer and in the right conditions he will be a handful."

Chasing 183 for victory, Sussex made a terrible start when David Harrison removed openers Chris Nash and Matt Prior with successive deliveries in his second over with the new ball.

Chris Adams (31) and Michael Thornely (32) steadied the innings with a third-wicket stand of 75 before Thornely became the first of two victims for left-arm spinner Dean Cosker.

It was left to Michael Yardy to guide Sussex to victory with help from the middle order.

The England left-hander made 62 off 63 balls but Glamorgan still looked favourites when Adam Shantry began the last over with 15 needed.

Shantry took three wickets in seven balls for former county Warwickshire in a Championship match at Hove last season.

But Tom Smith took a boundary off the first ball and ran a single off the next to leave Yardy to score ten off four deliveries which he achieved by hitting the final ball of the innings to the boundary.

Smith offered useful support at the end with 18 off 12 deliveries.

Earlier, Yardy had taken 1-27 off seven overs including the wicket of former England all-rounder Jamie Dalrymple, who top-scored with 49 for Glamorgan.

Jason Lewry is expected to get his first run-out of the season in the two-day game against Gloucestershire which starts at Hove on Thursday (11am).

The veteran left-armer, who celebrates his 37th birthday on Wednesday, did not go on the pre-season tour to Dubai because of a family illness and has yet to bowl outdoors off his full run-up.

Robinson added: "It has been too wet for Jason to get outside. Our groundstaff did remarkably well to get a pitch prepared for the Glamorgan games but it's about the only dry area at the moment.

"But hopefully we can get Jason up and running on Thursday."

James Kirtley is still feeling his way back just a month after shoulder surgery but Luke Wright has been told to rest a sore shoulder this week, although he could play against Gloucestershire as a specialist batsman.

New fast bowler Ryan Harris arrives from Australia on Wednesday but is unlikely to figure until next week's season-opener between the champions and the MCC at Lord's.
