Georgia Adams has been tipped for an England call-up after making a flying start to the season.
Adams followed up a century for Loughborough University by top scoring in Sussex Women’s opening two games of the Royal London One-Day Championship.
The 22-year-old batsman followed 45 in the defeat away to Warwickshire on Sunday by scoring 53 in front of the England Women’s coach Mark Robinson in the victory at Eastbourne 24 hours later.
Adams – the daughter of former Sussex captain Chris who won ten caps for England – impressed on the England Academy tour to Sri Lanka last month and Sussex Women’s coach Charlotte Burton believes she is ready to take the next step.
Burton said: “Georgia’s batting has come on in leaps and bounds in the last couple of years and if she continues playing the way she is at the moment then I’m certain she’ll be in contention for England soon.
“She’s been in the England Academy set-up for a couple of years now so she must be knocking on the door. Mark Robinson was there on Monday having a look so I’m sure he took note of her performance.
“It was funny because she said she didn’t feel comfortable on Sunday even though she looked it. Then on Monday she batted really well and has so much more power than in previous years.”
Sussex were let down by poor batting in their six-wicket defeat to Warwickshire as they were bowled out for just 126 with 14 of their 50 overs unused.
But they bounced back in impressive fashion against Kent on Monday as Adams and Izzy Noakes (38) helped them amass 173 in a game reduced to 30 overs by rain before debutant Danni Wyatt took 3-29 to seal a 42-run victory.
Burton added: “I think the performance against Kent was one of the best I can remember from the team. To put in a display like that having lost so badly the day before and with the weather meaning everyone was hanging around for a long time was brilliant.”
Sussex are back in action next Sunday when they travel to bath to take on Somerset.
